Snowmageddon might have stopped the post office over the weekend, but it couldn’t stop one couple from starting the rest of their lives together. Barb McCuen and Dave Jones married Saturday afternoon in D.C. while the storm raged outside. With the help of some dedicated vendors, friends, and family, they survived stuck vehicles, cancelling guests, and the fashionable mix of formalwear and snowpants.

Snowed In?

You’re going to be snowed in this weekend anyway, so if you’re a DIY bride, you might as well make good use of the time! We’re guessing that you didn’t stock up on craft supplies before the storm, so here are some printable decorations, banners and flags from Martha Stewart Weddings. From message flags to cupcake towers to paper flowers, there are lots of projects you can make this weekend with just your printer! There are even some fun party games for grown-ups and kids!

Date Night

If you haven’t made plans for Valentine’s Day yet – it’s a week from Sunday – don’t worry. There’s still plenty of time to make special plans with your sweetheart for the 13th or the 14th. Don’t know where to go for dinner? You’ll find a list of some of Southern Maryland’s nicest restaurants at SoMdWeddings.com. Some restaurants plan special events and menus for Valentine’s Day, so be sure to call in advance to find out what’s going on and whether you need reservations. (Take notes if you like your meal — lots of these restaurants also cater or can host rehearsal dinners or receptions!)

Fake Cakes?

Want a beautiful wedding cake without worrying about taste or spoilage? Rent a fake cake! What will they think of next? CakeRental.com offers beautiful cakes that look good enough to eat except the core of the cake is Styrofoam. A portion of the cake is edible, so you can have your cake and, uh, eat it, too, during your cake-cutting ceremony. How do you feed your guests? An inexpensive sheet cake in kept the kitchen.

Tell us what you think: Would you use a fake cake at your wedding?
